Cheeks and cheekbones

Modern surgical procedures allow us to lift the centre of the face, with a perfect remodelling of facial lines.

Vertical lifting highlights the expressive muscles of cheeks that may have become hollow in appearance, with sagging cheekbones. A face which might look sad and downcast recovers its youthful contours and a more rested expression. Generally, women are very pleased when regaining the younger profile of the cheeks and cheekbones.

The operation:

The surgical intervention may take place in either a hospital or day clinic. Vertical facelifts frequently necessitate the recovery of lost volume in the cheeks. This is achieved by carrying out a lipostructure of the cheeks at the same time as the facelift. In this treatment, the skin and fatty cushions of the cheek are lifted up and the muscles either suspended or shortened. The incisions are delicately sutured. Sutures are removed after approximately one week.

After-effects of the operation

Typically the operation produces a swelling with bruising of varying significance due to the effect of the strings that suspend the cheeks. This bruising disappears progressively after about a fortnight. It is not uncommon for a sensation of tension to be felt at the temples or at the scars near the ears. These problems will slowly fade, but an analgesic may be helpful. It usually takes two to three weeks to appreciate the final change to the profile of the face.
